Startup India registration is the process of getting your business recognised as a startup by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), which issues a Startup India certificate with a DPIIT recognition number. Udyam registration is a separate, government-run registration that classifies your business as a micro, small or medium enterprise (MSME) and issues an MSME certificate on udyamregistration.gov.in. IMAK Advisory, an ICAI-registered CA firm in Bengaluru, handles Startup India registration and Udyam registration for founders and business owners across India, and advises on the tax deductions, credit schemes and payment protections that come with each.

Many businesses need both, some need only one, and a few need neither. This page explains who is eligible under the revised 2026 startup framework, the Startup India registration process step by step, what the Startup India certificate shows, the new MSME classification limits, Udyam registration on the official portal, how to download MSME certificate copies, what the 45-day payment rule means for sellers and buyers, and what actually decides the MSME loan interest rate a bank offers you.

Startup India vs Udyam: Two Different Registrations

Founders often use "Startup India registration" and "MSME registration" as if they were the same thing. They are not. DPIIT recognition is about being an innovative, early-stage business; Udyam registration is about the size of your enterprise, measured by investment in plant, machinery or equipment and by turnover. A ten-person software company can hold both. A long-established trading business cannot become a recognised startup, but it can still register on Udyam.

What Is Startup India Registration (DPIIT Recognition)?

Startup India registration is the government's recognition that your business is a startup for the purpose of the Startup India programme. Once recognised, the entity receives a Startup India certificate and a DPIIT number, which it then uses to apply for specific benefits. Recognition by itself does not give money or tax exemption; it is the entry ticket that makes the business eligible to apply.

Who Is Eligible Under the 2026 Framework

DPIIT revised the startup definition through notification G.S.R. 108(E) dated 4 February 2026, replacing the 2019 framework. Under the revised rules, an entity can be recognised if it meets all of these conditions:

  • It is incorporated or registered in India as a private limited company, a limited liability partnership, a registered partnership firm, or a cooperative society (including multi-State cooperative societies)
  • Not more than 10 years have passed since incorporation or registration
  • Turnover has not exceeded ₹200 crore in any financial year since incorporation
  • It is working towards innovation, development or improvement of products, processes or services, or has a scalable business model with high potential for employment or wealth creation
  • It was not formed by splitting up or reconstructing a business that already exists

The turnover limit was doubled from ₹100 crore to ₹200 crore, and cooperative societies were added to bring innovation in agriculture, rural and allied sectors into the programme. Entities that were already recognised do not need to apply again, but they should check their status and recognition period on the portal.

Deep Tech Startups: The New 20-Year Category

The 2026 framework created a separate deep tech category. A deep tech startup can stay recognised for up to 20 years from incorporation, with a turnover limit of ₹300 crore. The test is based on what the business does rather than its sector: solutions built on new scientific or engineering knowledge, a high share of spending on research and development, significant novel intellectual property that the business owns or is creating with plans to commercialise it, and real scientific or technical uncertainty in the path to market. During the recognition period, a deep tech startup should not put money into assets or activities that are not part of its core business. DPIIT decides on deep tech status with guidance from an Inter-Ministerial Board.

Who Is Not Eligible

Sole proprietorships, one-person trading businesses and Hindu undivided families cannot get DPIIT recognition; they must first form a company, LLP or registered partnership. Businesses formed by splitting or restructuring an existing business are excluded, and so are entities engaged in speculative or non-productive assets and activities notified by the government. Recognition obtained on the basis of false information can be revoked, and the benefits taken with it can be withdrawn.

Startup India Registration Process: Step by Step

The Startup India registration process is online. There is no need to visit any office, and the government does not charge an application fee for recognition. A careful application usually goes through without queries; a vague one draws questions that delay the certificate.

  1. Confirm the entity type, date of incorporation and turnover meet the 2026 conditions
  2. Create a profile on the Startup India portal (startupindia.gov.in) using the email and mobile number of the authorised representative
  3. Open the recognition application from the dashboard and enter entity details: name, CIN or LLPIN or registration number, PAN, date of incorporation and registered address
  4. Enter details of directors or partners and the authorised representative
  5. Describe the business: the problem it solves, how the solution is innovative, how it can scale and the stage it is at (idea, validation, early traction or scaling)
  6. Upload the certificate of incorporation or registration and any supporting documents such as a pitch deck, website, patents or awards
  7. Complete the self-certification declarations and submit
  8. Answer any clarification sought by DPIIT through the dashboard
  9. Download the Startup India certificate once the status shows "Recognized"

The innovation write-up is where most applications succeed or fail. DPIIT looks for a clear explanation of what is new, why it matters and how the business will grow. A generic line such as "we provide quality IT services" rarely works; a specific explanation of the product, the users and the difference from what exists already does.

How Long Startup India Registration Takes

Processing time depends on DPIIT's workload and whether clarification is sought. Many complete applications are processed within a few working days to a few weeks. We cannot promise a date, and we tell you plainly if a query is likely.

Documents for Startup India Registration

  • Certificate of incorporation (company), LLP incorporation certificate, partnership registration certificate or cooperative society registration certificate
  • PAN of the entity
  • Details and identity of directors or partners, with the authorised representative's contact details
  • A short write-up on innovation, scalability and employment or wealth potential
  • Optional supporting material: pitch deck, website or app link, product video, patent or trademark filings, awards, incubator or accelerator letters, letters from funders
  • Turnover figures from the financial statements for every year since incorporation

A pitch deck is helpful but not compulsory. What matters more is that the description, the documents and the financial figures agree with each other. If your company has filed financial statements with the Registrar of Companies, the turnover you declare must match them.

Startup India Certificate: What It Shows and How to Download It

The Startup India certificate is the certificate of recognition issued by DPIIT. It shows the entity's name, the DPIIT (also called DIPP) certificate number, the date of incorporation, the industry and sector, and the period for which the entity is treated as a startup. Banks, incubators, government buyers and investors ask for a copy, so keep the PDF safe and the details current.

  1. Log in to the Startup India portal with the registered email and password
  2. Open your dashboard and go to the DPIIT recognition section
  3. Check that the status shows "Recognized"
  4. Click the option to download the certificate and save the PDF

If the status shows "Pending" or "Clarification sought", the certificate is not ready yet. If you have forgotten the password, reset it using the same email address that was used to register; creating a second profile causes mapping problems later.

How to Verify a Startup India Certificate

The Startup India portal has a "Verify recognition mapping" option under the Recognition menu. You enter the DPIIT number, CIN, PAN and the representative's mobile number and confirm with an OTP. Investors and large buyers increasingly use this check, so a certificate that is not properly mapped to your profile can cause awkward questions during due diligence. If your recognition is not mapped to your current login, the dashboard has an option to map the DPIIT number to it.

Benefits of DPIIT Recognition

The Startup India certificate opens the door to a set of benefits. Most of them have their own conditions and their own application, so recognition is the first step, not the last.

The Startup Tax Holiday (Section 80-IAC, Now Section 140)

An eligible startup can claim a 100% deduction of profits from its eligible business for any three consecutive years out of the first ten years from incorporation. The deduction was in section 80-IAC of the Income-tax Act, 1961 and is in section 140 of the Income-tax Act, 2025, which applies from 1 April 2026. It is available to companies and LLPs incorporated on or after 1 April 2016 and before 1 April 2030, with turnover not above ₹100 crore in the year of the claim, and only after the Inter-Ministerial Board (IMB) issues a certificate. DPIIT recognition alone is not enough.

Two practical points matter. First, a startup that is still making losses gains nothing from the deduction in those years, so the choice of the three years should follow the profit forecast. Second, a company that opts for the lower concessional corporate tax rate generally cannot also claim this deduction, so we compare both options before you decide. Our tax planning team runs that comparison with your projections.

Angel Tax Is No Longer a Reason to Register

Earlier, recognised startups registered partly to escape the "angel tax" on share premium above fair value. That tax was abolished for all classes of investors from assessment year 2025-26, and it has no place in the Income-tax Act, 2025. Share issues must still follow the Companies Act and, for foreign investors, FEMA pricing rules, so a valuation report is still needed in many cases. If a website or adviser still sells recognition mainly as angel tax protection, the information is out of date.

ESOP Tax Timing for Eligible Startups

Employees of eligible startups that hold the IMB certificate can defer the payment of tax on ESOP perquisites until the earliest of a sale of the shares, leaving the company, or a fixed period after allotment. This helps when employees receive shares that cannot yet be sold. The startup must still calculate and report the perquisite correctly in payroll.

Funding Schemes Linked to Recognition

The Startup India Seed Fund Scheme supports early-stage startups through selected incubators, not directly. The Fund of Funds for Startups, managed by SIDBI, invests in SEBI-registered alternative investment funds, which in turn invest in startups; the 2025 Union Budget added a fresh ₹10,000 crore to it. The Credit Guarantee Scheme for Startups covers loans from member banks and financial institutions, with the cover raised to ₹20 crore per borrower in 2025. None of these is automatic: each has its own selection process, and we do not arrange funding or loans.

What Is Udyam Registration (MSME Registration)?

Udyam registration is the official registration of a micro, small or medium enterprise under the MSMED Act, 2006. It replaced Udyog Aadhaar from 1 July 2020. Registration is online, paperless and based on self-declaration, and the government does not charge for it. Each enterprise has one Udyam registration, under which all its units and locations are listed. Once registered, the business can download an MSME certificate (formally the Udyam Registration Certificate) with a QR code.

MSME Classification From 1 April 2025

An enterprise is classified using a composite test of investment in plant and machinery or equipment and annual turnover. The limits were raised with effect from 1 April 2025:

MSME classification limits from 1 April 2025Verified Compliance Matrix
CategoryInvestment in plant, machinery or equipmentAnnual turnover
Micro enterpriseNot more than ₹2.5 croreNot more than ₹10 crore
Small enterpriseNot more than ₹25 croreNot more than ₹100 crore
Medium enterpriseNot more than ₹125 croreNot more than ₹500 crore

If a business crosses either limit of a category, it moves to the next category. Turnover from exports is not counted for classification. Investment and turnover are taken from the income-tax return and GST data linked to the PAN, so the category shown on the certificate updates as those figures change.

Who Can Register on Udyam

Proprietorships, Hindu undivided families, partnership firms, LLPs, companies, cooperative societies, trusts and other associations engaged in manufacturing or services can register. Retail and wholesale traders can also register, but only for priority sector lending; most other MSME benefits are for manufacturers and service providers. Informal micro enterprises without PAN or GST registration can be onboarded through the Udyam Assist Platform, through designated agencies, for priority sector lending.

Udyam Registration on udyamregistration.gov.in: Step by Step

The only official website for Udyam registration is udyamregistration.gov.in. The process takes one sitting if the details are ready.

  1. Open udyamregistration.gov.in and choose the option for new entrepreneurs who are not yet registered as MSME
  2. Enter the Aadhaar number and name of the proprietor, managing partner, karta or authorised signatory and validate with the OTP sent to the mobile linked to Aadhaar
  3. Select the type of organisation and enter the PAN; the portal validates it with income-tax data
  4. Enter enterprise details: name, units and locations, official address, date of incorporation or commencement, bank account, and the main activity (manufacturing or services)
  5. Select the NIC codes for the activities, and enter employee numbers
  6. Confirm investment and turnover figures where the portal asks for them; for most businesses these come from ITR and GST data
  7. Enter GSTIN where GST registration is compulsory for the business
  8. Submit with the final OTP and note the Udyam Registration Number
  9. Print the certificate from the portal once it is generated

The certificate is generated online once the details are accepted. The data you declare is self-declared and can be checked by government agencies later, so the activity, NIC codes and figures must match your tax and GST records.

Beware of Look-Alike Udyam Websites

Many private websites copy the look of the Udyam portal and charge money for registration, renewal or "certificate updates". The government portal is udyamregistration.gov.in, and Udyam registration does not need renewal. If you pay a website that only looks official, your data goes to an unknown party and you may still not be registered. We file on the official portal only, with your OTP, and share the acknowledgement with you.

How to Download MSME Certificate

Here is how to download MSME certificate copies from the official portal at any time:

  1. Go to udyamregistration.gov.in
  2. Open the "Print / Verify" menu and choose "Print Udyam Certificate"
  3. Enter the 16-character Udyam Registration Number and the registered mobile number
  4. Choose the OTP option and generate the OTP
  5. Enter the OTP and validate
  6. Choose "Print" or "Print with Annexure" and save the PDF

Choose "Print with Annexure" when a bank, buyer or tender asks for unit and activity details; the annexure lists the units and NIC codes. The QR code on the certificate lets anyone verify it. Anyone who asks how to download MSME certificate copies for an old Udyog Aadhaar should know that Udyog Aadhaar certificates are no longer valid; the business must hold a Udyam registration.

If You Have Forgotten Your Udyam Number

The same "Print / Verify" menu has an option for a forgotten Udyam or UAM number. You choose to receive an OTP on the registered mobile or email, validate it, and the portal shows the number. If neither the mobile nor the email is with you any longer, the details must be corrected first, which needs the authorised person's Aadhaar.

Updating Your Udyam Details

When the address, activity, bank account, units or authorised person change, update the registration through the "Update Details" option on the portal with an OTP. Investment and turnover updates come from the ITR and GST systems. An out-of-date certificate is a common reason for a bank or buyer rejecting it.

Benefits of Udyam Registration

  • Priority sector lending: banks count loans to registered MSMEs towards their priority sector targets, which helps access to credit
  • No collateral for loans up to ₹10 lakh to micro and small enterprises, under RBI rules
  • Credit guarantee cover under CGTMSE for collateral-free loans to micro and small enterprises, with the ceiling raised to ₹10 crore from 1 April 2025
  • Protection against delayed payments under the MSMED Act, with complaints through the MSME Samadhaan portal
  • Preference in government purchases: the public procurement policy sets a target share of annual purchases from micro and small enterprises, with exemption from earnest money deposits in many tenders
  • Eligibility for central and state schemes, subsidies and incentives that require an Udyam number

None of these benefits is automatic. A bank still assesses the loan; a tender still has technical conditions; a subsidy still has its own application. Udyam registration is the proof of status that each of them asks for.

The 45-Day Payment Rule for Sellers and Buyers

Under the MSMED Act, a buyer must pay a micro or small enterprise supplier within the agreed period, which cannot exceed 45 days from acceptance of goods or services, or within 15 days if there is no written agreement. If the buyer pays late, the supplier is entitled to compound interest at three times the bank rate notified by the RBI, and can approach the Micro and Small Enterprise Facilitation Council through the MSME Samadhaan portal.

The income-tax law adds a second consequence for buyers. Under section 43B(h) of the Income-tax Act, 1961, the purchase cost owed to a registered micro or small enterprise is deductible only in the year it is paid if it is paid after the MSMED Act deadline; the same principle is carried into the Income-tax Act, 2025. Traders registered only for priority sector lending, and medium enterprises, are not covered by this rule. Companies must also report dues to micro and small enterprises outstanding for more than 45 days in the half-yearly MSME Form 1 filed with the Registrar of Companies.

For a supplier, this makes the MSME certificate valuable: share it with every customer and mention the Udyam number on invoices. For a buyer, ask every supplier for their Udyam status at onboarding and track payment dates; our bookkeeping team sets up vendor tagging for this.

MSME Loan Interest Rate: What Decides It

The MSME loan interest rate is set by each lender for each borrower. There is no single government rate, and the figures quoted on websites change often and rarely match what a particular business is offered. In line with our policy, we do not publish rates or charges of banks or lenders. What we can explain is what decides the MSME loan interest rate you are offered and how to compare offers fairly.

  • The benchmark: RBI requires new floating-rate loans to micro, small and medium enterprises to be linked to an external benchmark, such as the repo rate or a Treasury bill yield, so the rate moves when the benchmark moves
  • The spread: the lender adds a margin over the benchmark based on its assessment of credit risk, which it can review when your risk profile changes
  • Your credit profile: repayment history, the business's and promoters' credit scores, and existing borrowings
  • Financial strength: profitability, cash flow, working capital cycle and the quality of the financial statements
  • Security: whether there is collateral or a credit guarantee cover such as CGTMSE
  • The product: term loans, working capital limits and scheme-based loans are priced differently
  • The lender type: banks, small finance banks and NBFCs price risk differently

When you compare offers, use the Key Fact Statement that lenders must give for MSME term loans. It shows the annual percentage rate, which includes interest and other costs, so offers can be compared on the same basis. From 1 January 2026, RBI rules also stop most lenders from charging pre-payment penalties on floating-rate loans to micro and small enterprises, so check the loan agreement for this.

What we do is prepare the financial statements, projections and CMA data a lender needs to assess the loan, and explain the numbers to the bank. We do not arrange loans, take commission from lenders or promise approval or a particular MSME loan interest rate.

The two registrations do not conflict. Many of our startup clients register on Udyam soon after incorporation and apply for DPIIT recognition when their product and pitch are ready.

Compliance After Registration

Neither certificate is a one-time event. A few habits keep them useful:

  • Keep turnover, investment and activity in line with what was declared; file ITR and GST returns on time because Udyam data comes from them
  • Update the Udyam record when the address, activity, bank or units change
  • Track the startup's age and turnover so you know when recognition ends; deep tech startups should check the conditions on investments outside their core business
  • Apply for the IMB certificate before the year you plan to claim the tax holiday, and keep the certificate with the tax records
  • File MSME Form 1 if your company owes micro or small suppliers beyond 45 days
  • Keep board resolutions, financial statements and the recognition documents together for due diligence

State Startup Policies

Many states, including Karnataka, run their own startup policies with grants, reimbursements of patent and other costs, and incubation support. Most of them ask for DPIIT recognition and a state-level registration or application, and some ask for Udyam registration as well. State schemes change often and have their own windows and budgets, so we check the current state notification before advising, and we tell you if your business does not fit.

How We Handle Your Registration

  1. Eligibility check: entity type, age, turnover, activity and the 2026 conditions
  2. Advice on whether you need Startup India registration, Udyam registration or both
  3. Draft of the innovation and scalability description with you
  4. Filing on the official portals using your OTPs, with copies of every submission
  5. Replies to any DPIIT clarification
  6. Delivery of the Startup India certificate and MSME certificate, with a note on next steps
  7. Where relevant, preparation of the IMB application for the tax holiday
  8. A compliance calendar for returns, updates and recognition limits

You keep the logins. We do not hold your passwords, and every OTP stays with you.

What Decides the Cost

We do not publish fees. The government does not charge for Udyam registration or for DPIIT recognition. The cost of our work depends on the entity, how much drafting the innovation description needs, whether an IMB application or financial projections are included, and whether you need ongoing compliance support. Our team shares the exact total after reviewing your requirements.

Three Typical Situations

Statutory Advisory Note
Illustrative situations based on common requests. Names and details are invented; these are not client testimonials.

A Two-Year-Old Agritech Company

A private limited company selling a soil-testing device wanted to apply for a state grant that required DPIIT recognition. The work covered the eligibility check, a clear description of the device and its users, the Startup India registration, and Udyam registration so that its bank loan application could use CGTMSE cover. The tax holiday was left for later, because the company expected losses for two more years.

A Component Manufacturer With Slow-Paying Buyers

A partnership firm supplying parts to large companies was waiting 90 days or more for payments. It was not a startup, but it qualified as a micro enterprise. After Udyam registration, the firm added its Udyam number to invoices and shared the certificate with buyers, who then had a tax reason to pay within 45 days.

A Founder With an Old Udyog Aadhaar

A founder's bank asked for an MSME certificate, and he only had an old Udyog Aadhaar printout. We moved the business to Udyam registration, corrected the activity code, and showed him how to download MSME certificate copies with the annexure for the bank.

Common Mistakes With Startup India Registration and Udyam

  • Applying for DPIIT recognition as a proprietorship
  • Writing a vague innovation description that invites a query
  • Declaring turnover that does not match filed financial statements
  • Assuming recognition gives the tax holiday without the IMB certificate
  • Paying a look-alike website for Udyam registration or "renewal"
  • Choosing the wrong NIC code, so the certificate shows trading instead of manufacturing
  • Creating two Startup India profiles and losing access to the recognised one
  • Not updating Udyam after moving the business
  • Expecting Udyam registration alone to lower the MSME loan interest rate

Special Cases

Converting From a Proprietorship

A proprietor who wants DPIIT recognition must first move the business into a company, LLP or registered partnership. The new entity's age is counted from its own incorporation, but recognition can be refused if it is simply the old business restructured, so the facts must be explained honestly.

Related Services & Compliance Links:

Cooperative Societies

From February 2026, cooperative societies registered under State or Union Territory cooperative laws, and multi-State cooperative societies, can apply for recognition. The same age, turnover and innovation conditions apply.

Foreign-Owned Indian Companies

An Indian company with foreign shareholders can be recognised if it meets the conditions. The foreign investment must be reported under FEMA, and any share issue must follow the pricing guidelines.

Related Services & Compliance Links:

Crossing the Limits

When a startup crosses the age or turnover limit, it stops being a startup for new benefits. When an MSME grows past its category limits, the category on the certificate changes after the data is updated, and some scheme benefits continue for a limited period under the rules. We check this before a funding round or a large contract.

Section 8 Companies and NGOs

Non-profit Section 8 companies are generally not the target of DPIIT recognition, but they can register on Udyam if they carry on manufacturing or services.

What Our Service Does Not Do

  • We are not DPIIT, the MSME Ministry, SIDBI or a bank, and we cannot guarantee recognition, a certificate, a grant or a loan
  • We do not arrange loans or take commission from lenders, and we do not quote an MSME loan interest rate on a lender's behalf
  • We do not file applications with information we know to be incorrect
  • We do not use private look-alike portals; we file only on official government websites
  • We do not give legal opinions on disputes with buyers; for recovery cases we work with advocates

When You May Not Need Us

If you are a proprietor or a small business with your PAN, Aadhaar-linked mobile and GST details ready, Udyam registration on udyamregistration.gov.in is simple enough to do yourself in one sitting, and this page shows how to download MSME certificate copies afterwards. If your business is a straightforward trading or service operation without an innovative product, Startup India registration may not be available or useful, and you do not need to pay anyone to attempt it. We are most useful when the innovation description needs care, when tax holiday planning is involved, or when the figures across returns, financial statements and portals need to agree.

Questions to Answer Before You Apply

  1. Is the business a company, LLP, registered partnership or cooperative society?
  2. When was it incorporated, and what was the turnover in each year since?
  3. What exactly is new about the product or service, and who uses it?
  4. Do you expect profits in the next few years, and when?
  5. Is the business a manufacturer, a service provider or a trader?
  6. Who is the authorised person whose Aadhaar and mobile will be used?
  7. Do your customers delay payments, and would the 45-day rule help?

Confidentiality

Startup applications describe products and plans that are not yet public. As chartered accountants we follow ICAI's confidentiality rules. Your pitch, figures and identity documents are used only for the filings, shared only with the team handling them, and stored securely. We do not share your idea or data with investors, lenders or other clients.

Startup India registration is recognition by DPIIT that your business is a startup. It gives a Startup India certificate and a DPIIT number, which are needed to apply for startup benefits such as the tax holiday, IPR support and procurement relaxations.

Who is eligible for Startup India registration in 2026?

Private limited companies, LLPs, registered partnership firms and cooperative societies that are up to 10 years old, with turnover up to ₹200 crore in every year, working on innovation or a scalable model. Deep tech startups can be up to 20 years old with turnover up to ₹300 crore.

How do I download the Startup India certificate?

Log in to the Startup India portal, open the DPIIT recognition section of your dashboard, check that the status is "Recognized" and download the Startup India certificate as a PDF.

Is the Startup India certificate the same as the MSME certificate?

No. The Startup India certificate is DPIIT recognition for startups. The MSME certificate is the Udyam Registration Certificate, which classifies a business as micro, small or medium. A business can hold both.

Does DPIIT recognition give an automatic tax exemption?

No. The tax holiday needs a separate certificate from the Inter-Ministerial Board, and is available only to companies and LLPs incorporated before 1 April 2030 with turnover up to ₹100 crore in the year of the claim.

Is angel tax still a concern for startups?

No. The angel tax on share premium was abolished for all investors from assessment year 2025-26. Share issues still need proper valuation under company law and, for foreign investors, FEMA.

What is udyamregistration.gov.in?

udyamregistration.gov.in is the official government portal of the Ministry of MSME for Udyam registration, certificate printing, verification and updates. Udyam registration on this portal does not have a government fee.

On udyamregistration.gov.in, open "Print / Verify", choose "Print Udyam Certificate", enter the Udyam number and registered mobile, validate the OTP and choose "Print" or "Print with Annexure" to save the PDF.

What if I have forgotten my Udyam registration number?

Use the "Forgot Udyam / UAM No." option under "Print / Verify" and validate with an OTP on the registered mobile or email. The portal will show the number.

Does Udyam registration need renewal?

No. Udyam registration does not expire. Details should be updated when they change, and investment and turnover are updated from ITR and GST data.

What are the MSME limits from 1 April 2025?

Micro: investment up to ₹2.5 crore and turnover up to ₹10 crore. Small: up to ₹25 crore and ₹100 crore. Medium: up to ₹125 crore and ₹500 crore. Export turnover is not counted.

Startup India Registration and Udyam Registration by Chartered Accountants

IMAK Advisory is an ICAI-registered firm of chartered accountants in Whitefield, Bengaluru, handling Startup India registration and Udyam registration for founders and business owners across India. DPIIT recognition is open to private limited companies, LLPs, registered partnership firms and, since February 2026, cooperative societies that are up to 10 years old with turnover up to ₹200 crore a year; deep tech businesses can stay recognised for 20 years with turnover up to ₹300 crore.

The Startup India certificate carries the DPIIT number that every later benefit asks for: the Inter-Ministerial Board certificate for the three-year tax holiday, fast-track patent examination, relaxed conditions in government purchases and the credit guarantee scheme for startups. Recognition is not an exemption by itself, so we plan which benefits are worth applying for and when, based on your profit forecast.

Udyam registration – the official MSME registration – is done only on the government portal, udyamregistration.gov.in, with the Aadhaar of the authorised person and the PAN of the business. Since 1 April 2025, a micro enterprise has investment up to ₹2.5 crore and turnover up to ₹10 crore, a small enterprise up to ₹25 crore and ₹100 crore, and a medium enterprise up to ₹125 crore and ₹500 crore, with export turnover left out. There is no renewal; the details update from tax and GST data.

If you are wondering how to download MSME certificate copies, open "Print / Verify" on the portal, choose "Print Udyam Certificate", enter the Udyam number and registered mobile, validate the OTP and save the PDF – with the annexure when a bank or buyer needs unit and activity details. A forgotten Udyam number can be recovered from the same menu.

Registered micro and small suppliers are protected by the 45-day payment rule, and buyers who pay late lose the tax deduction until they pay. For many manufacturers and service firms, this is the most practical benefit of the MSME certificate.

Founders often ask what the MSME loan interest rate will be. There is no single rate: each lender links floating-rate loans to an external benchmark and adds a spread based on credit history, financial statements, security and the type of loan. Compare offers using the annual percentage rate in the Key Fact Statement. We do not publish lender rates, arrange loans or take commission; we prepare the financial statements and projections that lenders assess.

Startup India registration goes smoothly when the application tells a clear story: what is new about the product, who uses it and how the business can grow, backed by figures that match the financial statements. We draft that description with you, file on the official portals using your OTPs and reply to any clarification.

We do not publish fees; the government does not charge for recognition or Udyam registration, and our team shares the exact total for our work after reviewing your requirements. Visit us at ITPL Main Rd, Pattandur Agrahara, Whitefield, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560066, call or WhatsApp +91 79798 50684, or email imakadvisoryteam@gmail.com, and the IMAK Advisory team will confirm whether your business needs Startup India registration, the Startup India certificate, Udyam registration or all three.
